“While wandering through Edinburgh, we stumbled upon McNaughtan’s Bookshop & Gallery, and it was like stepping into a literary treasure trove. Established in 1957, it’s Scotland’s oldest second-hand and antiquarian bookshop, nestled in a charming basement space on Haddington Place. The shop is filled with shelves of old, second-hand books, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff were incredibly sweet and helpful, making our visit even more enjoyable. Although they didn’t have the specific book I was searching for, I thoroughly enjoyed perusing their extensive collection. McNaughtan’s also hosts Typewronger Books in its gallery space, offering new books and secondhand typewriters, adding a unique twist to the traditional bookshop experience. If you’re in Edinburgh and have a love for books, McNaughtan’s is a must-visit spot that combines history, charm, and a passion for literature.”

“I liked this shop a lot on my first visit and picked plenty of stuff. It was still great when I visited a second time though had fewer tiles of my choice, less fiction and a slight price increase. It has a great collection of Scottish lit and travel books and is a very cosy bookshop where you can easily spend an hour just browsing.”
